Catherine Riley has served as the Director of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority Division since 1997. In 2002, she was promoted to Vice President, Marketing and has overall responsibility for the agency's three marketing divisions.

Over the past ten years, she has grown the FCEDA international division from zero to five overseas offices. She has been responsible for the selection of the international target markets, the development of the marketing strategies, and the recruitment of the personnel. The international offices are located in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul, and Tel Aviv. Fairfax County is the only US County to have this level of international representation for investment purposes exclusively.

From 1997 to 2007, the FCEDA International Division has provided assistance to companies that resulted in 11,681 jobs and 3,798,984 square feet of leased commercial space. The number of international firms in Fairfax County has grown from 17 firms in 1979 to 361 firms currently.

Ms. Riley and her team provide assistance to approximately 100 international firms per year who are considering a US office. The team addresses such critical issues as office selection, recruitment, taxes, funding and start up operations. It is a customer service driven model that has proven to be successful and was recently selected by the Virginia International Trade Alliance as the best international program for jurisdictions in the Commonwealth to follow. The services of the FCEDA International division will be highlighted in a task force report that will be given to Virginia Governor Tim Kaine in October of 2007.

Ms. Riley earned her bachelor's degree from Penn State University and began her career at the FCEDA as a planner in the market research division. She has served as the Senior National Marketing Manager and also the Asia Marketing Manager.

Ms. Riley serves on the Board of Directors of the British American Business Association in Washington, DC and the Board of Directors for the Reston Chamber of Commerce. She was recently appointed to the Executive Committee of this organization. Ms. Riley is also a graduate of Leadership Fairfax.
